After a nine-hour flight from Sydney, we arrived at Haneda Airport early in the morning.
It was time to say goodbye to our participant from Hyogo.
After spending two weeks learning, exploring and sharing so many new experiences together, saying goodbye felt a little different from when we first met.
The Hiroshima group then boarded their final flight to Hiroshima.
But before arriving home, there was one last mission!
Each student had to think of a message to share with their family waiting at Hiroshima Airport.
They could talk about what they were thankful for, what they had learned, how they had changed, or their favorite memories from Sydney. The only true was to speak from the heart about their experience.
We arrived safely at Hiroshima Airport, and decided the speaking order with rock-paper scissors!
Just two weeks earlier, some of the students had barely known each other. Now, they were laughing, chatting and joking together so naturally that even their families were surprised by the change.
One by one, the students stood in front of their families and shared their messages.
Some expressed gratitude for being given the opportunity to join the program. Some talked about how they had changed or what they had learned. Others shared their favorite memories.
